Part-time Special Education Parent Trainer

Title: Special Education Parent Trainer (Jefferson)

Reporting Relationship: Special Education Parent Center Director

Job Summary: Candidate will be responsible for assisting parents of children with disabilities, schools, and community service providers in learning about community programs and understanding their rights and responsibilities in the education setting. Will provide training and information in the Jefferson-Lewis and St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES regions. Must possess excellent communication skills including teaching to larger audiences. Knowledge regarding special education law a plus. Occasional weekend and evening work and overnight travel are to be expected.

Qualifications:

Associates degree required, bachelor's degree preferred
Three years experience working with children and/or parents who have disabilities
Must be organized, work independently, and meet deadlines
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required
Driver's license and personal vehicle required
Persons with personal experience with a disability and/or a parent of a child with a disability encouraged to apply
Must be committed to the independent living philosophy
