NRCIL champions the idea that people with disabilities are the best experts when it comes to their own needs. Our Independent Living Philosophy emphasizes consumer control when it comes to making decisions about how to live, work and participate in their communities. This is a vital perspective when the decisions relate to services affecting their lives on a daily basis.
NRCIL promotes efforts to end discrimination, segregation and prejudice against people with disabilities. We work with community partners to create an accessible, inclusive society where people discover choices to live more independently and with enhanced dignity.
Core Independent Living Services include:
- Peer Support
- Information and Referral
- Individual and Systems Advocacy

Peer Support:
Peer support offers you the opportunity to receive assistance from an individual who genuinely understands the issues you are facing because they have walked in the same or a similar path. Often, the ability to turn to peers in a one-on-one or group setting can help you deal with important life problems. It provides you the opportunity to build a rapport with someone who understands and has experience facing the same challenges.
